I'm going to start this journal with a question. It's a question that's so easy to ask but often puts you on the spot...
Is that REALLY what it looked like?Let me find an example if don't understand what I mean:
Viewer: I really love your pictures, they're really impressive.
Artist: Thanks very much, I really appreciate it.
Viewer: (pointing to one picture in particular) Is that REALLY what it looked like?

What do you say (as the artist) in return? Is it a rude question to ask by the viewer? Are they not respecting your work fully? Is it just that they don't understand your work?
What would YOU say in return? Your comments shall be very intriguing!
As far as I am concerned, I use Photography as an artist. I can imagine the picture I am going to take and the camera is the tool which achieves the result (I just have to program the camera to achieve my vision). In this situation, I believe the viewer is actually assuming (or wanting to assume) that I am documenting a situation, that my aim as a Photographer is to show them exactly what I saw, completely unimaginitively (gasp!).
Please feel free to comment, I would love to see what other people think about the subject, and whether you also get asked the same question!!
Many thanks for reading, I look forward to hearing what you believe!
Jack.
Do you think it is right to edit something when you didn't previously have the idea when you were taking the picture?
